Swtor Guide – New Jedi Knight Info

August 14th, 2010

Bioware recently (last Friday) release more information on the Jedi Knight class. They have added more about advanced classes for the Jedi Knight and a little information on the Jedi Knights first companion. The T7-01 droid which has not had its memory wiped for a long time. This little droid T7-01 has just about everything that is great about droids including computer and repair skills but over the long time it has served with the Jedi the T7-01 has picked up many skills that come into play on the battlefield making him the idea companion for a Jedi Knight.

Lets  take a look at the two advanced classes of the Swtor Jedi Knight:

Guardian

The Jedi Knight Guardian sounds like a tank since they can wear heavy armour and have skills to empower their allies on the battlefield. Using his lightsaber the force and heavy armour can make killing a Jedi Knight Guardian a very hard task. They are known as leaders on the battlefield and have the defense to withstand many hard attacks. If you are wanting to play a tanking role for the Republic then this may be the class for you.

Sentinel

The Jedi Knight Sentinel has training with two lightsabers and can use them to chain together massive combos to inflict huge damage on there enemies. Looking for weak spots on their target and hitting them with deadly accuracy is what the Jedi Knight Sentinel is all about. This class reminds me of a common class in mmorpgs the Berzerker. Basically a bit like a glass cannon. Although the Jedi Knight Sentinel may not have the defense and support skills of its Guardian counterpart its damage will be a massive amount better.

Swtor Guide – Playable Races

August 7th, 2010

Swtor Confirmed Playable Races

Its been a while since the first few playable races were revealed by Bioware and last Friday they released another set of playable races that Sith players will be able to choose from. I fought this would be the idea time to take a quick look at the Swtor playable races and give you a brief look into each race.

Not much information is know right now but we do know that certain races can only play certain classes. I guess you are thinking what I am. “What if I want to play a class that my chosen race can not use?” The answer to this is yet to be anounced but I am sure somewhere in Swtor BETA someone will point it out and Bioware may considering changing it so all races can be all classes.

I have also heard that each class has a secret race that is unique to that class. I am not sure if this has been confirmed by Bioware right now but it sounds like the kind of feature my favourite game developers would add in.

Ok let’s take a quick look at the confirmed classes for Swtor:

Swtor Human

This is a gimme. Its rare to find a mmorpg that does not have a human as a playable class and in a Star Wars mmorpg it is almost expected. Right now the Swtor Human has a decent range of playable classes which will most likely mean a lot of people will consider playing one.

The Human customization is just like you would expect with a Bioware game, Just about every detail on the human from hair to lip stick can be customized. With lip stick being there as you can imagine Swtor Human players can choose between female and male character types. Another interesting customization for the Human is Tattoos and Scars.

Swtor Rattataki

The Rattataki in Star Wars look a lot like the Human race but they have very pale skin and no hair. This means that customization with the Rattataki is going be limited for the moment. Infact the only confirmed Rattataki customization is Tattoos. Although I am sure you will be able to make your character a little unique depending on what armour you use. Rattataki can also be female and male characters.

The Rattataki is also a playable race for the Bounty Hunter class which is awesome thing since the Bounty Hunters in Swtor are going to be amazing. I am sure that the Rattataki will be able to play either of the two Sith classes and the Jedi classes although this has not been confirmed right now. Due to the amazing look that this race has, I can see why a lot of players would considering playing one in Swtor. The only problem I would have is the lack of customization for the Swtor Rattataki.

Swtor Twi’lek

I think this one was another gimme. The Twi’lek has to be one of the more common and well known races in Star Wars. They are known for their colourful skin and tails coming from their heads known as brain tails which can be used for communcation on a level other races can not hear. Twi’lek’s should also have a decent range of classes to choose from ranging from Jedi to Smuggler and although evil Twi’leks do exist I prefer the good ones.

The main customization of a Twi’lek character would be the skin color, You can choose from Blue, Yellow-Green and Yellow. A unique customization to the Swtor Twi’lek would be the lekku tattoos. Lekkus being the Twi’leks brain tails. You can choose to have these tattoos or not. Twi’leks players will be able to choose between female and male character types. The Twi’lek females may have some form of seduction skills since if you remember rightly they are used in Star Wars as exotic dancers because of their beauty.

Swtor Chiss

The Chiss are tall blue aliens with beaming red eyes which are restricted to Empire players only meaning that Chiss can only be Sith, Bounty Hunters and Imperial Agents. Not much is known about the Chiss since they come from a remote planet in Star Wars but are said to be close to the human race in many ways. Right now there is no unique customizations for the Chiss but I understand that you will be able to customize you Chiss with the basic customizations of the Swtor Humans. Hair, Scars Tattoos etc.

The Chiss may be the choose of many Empire players due the fact that is it a Empire specific race and I would put money on the vast majority of Imperial Agents being a Chiss Race. Swtor Chiss players will also be able to choose between female and male versions of the race.

Swtor Sith

Finally a playable pure blood Sith. As you can imagine the Swtor Sith race is a Empire only race and will be very common for players playing Sith Warriors and Inqusitors. Basically the Sith hate the Jedi and will be going head to head with them in Swtor using the Dark side of the Force. The Sith is one of the oldest factions in Star Wars lore and in the Star Wars films there are only ever two Sith at one time which in the films are mainly human. Apart from Darth Maul who is a Zabrak not a pure blood Sith, but the good news is Zabrak is a confirmed race and I will get on to it a little later.

The Swtor Sith is one of the most evil looking races in the game and has a unique customization that makes them look even more meaner. This customization is Facial Tendrils which look a little like extra bone around the mouth and cheek bones. Right now I have only seen screens of bald Sith but it has not be confirmed that they can not have customized hair. Also from what I have seen players of Sith pure bloods are stuck with the dark red skin which is I think makes the race look rather cool. Although it is not confirmed only female Sith have been seen so I would think that Sith may only be females.

Swtor Miraluka

The Miraluka are a Force sensitive race who are a lot like humans but they do not see normally like humans they see using the force because they have no eyes. The Miraluka being so attached to the Forces means that a lot of them in Star Wars lore are within the Jedi Order although there as been some Dark Jedi Miraluka. The Miraluka will be many aimed at Jedi Classes and maybe Sith Force users. I can see the Miraluka being one of the strongest races to play a Jedi Knight due to there natural ability with the Force.

Customization with Swtor Miralukas will be Human like but they have the unique customization of special visors and veils to cover their faces.

Swtor Mirialan

Mirialan’s look a lot like humans but with yellow-green skin and sometimes even pale skin like humans. Mirialan are know for their speed and will be able to play a range of classes most preferred would be a Jedi Consular or Knight. Not much is known about the Swtor Mirialan’s but you will be able to choose both male and female versions of the race and choose to have their unique customization which consists of special tattoos on the face of the Mirialan.

Swtor Zabrak (Iridonians)

The Zabrak is one of the most impressive looking races in Star Wars and I doubt I will ever get to play on in Swtor since I play to play a Republic character and I am sure that the Zabrak will be a Empire race which will be most fitted to Sith Consular or Warrior. The Zabrak are normally red colored and have horns. Imagine Darth Maul from Stars Wars EP1. So we know that the Swtor Zabrak will be a Empire race due to there natural evil tendencies.

The customization of a  Zabrak will pretty much consist of picking the most Evil character you can, Zabraks can have facial tattoos but most importantly horns. Zabraks are known to have many appearances and many different skin colors but the only color I have seen in Swtor right now is red, Although this is not confirmed I can see why people would choose only red Zabraks.

More Swtor Races To Be Confirmed

Below are more races that are yet to be confirmed that stand a good chance of being included in Swtor.

  • Ithorians
  • Kel Dor
  • Mon Cal
  • Rodian
  • Nikto
  • Togruta
  • Duros

Swtor Guide – Swtor Companions

July 18th, 2010

I am sure that many of you have played Kotor and was kept from being lonely by the great companions or team mates that Bioware put into those two great games. It appears that this companion system is going to also be in Swtor!?!

Some of you may be thinking that it is odd to have a companion system in a mmorpg. Yeah it worked real well in the console solo rpg’s. But how well is it going to work online in a mmorpg? The answer to this question is somewhat not known right now since hardly anyone has had the chance to try it out. So you will have to wait and see.

The companions in Swtor are going to provide the exact same thing they did in Kotor. That being combat assistance, in game commentary, Comedy, Company and most importantly more side quests that are unique to each companion. Each class will also have there own set of unique companions which they can acquire. It also appears that you will be in control of your companions skills and gear again. Also you will be able to take these NPC companions along with you when you are with other players.
You will be able to interact with your companions the exact same as the solo rpgs kotor, And can even engage in romance with them if you wish. Knowing Bioware there will be a large selection of different types of companions each with their own story, strengths and weaknesses. Ranging from weird aliens to clever droids companions are certainly going to make a difference not only in PvE but also in PvP.

Some missions and quests in Swtor will be completed using your companions skills and this means you will need to make the right choice between a skilled hacker droid or a battle hardened medic. Taking the right companion will be key.

I am just left with the question on how well this type of system that worked so well not only in Kotor but in most other Bioware games (Mass Effect 2, Dragon Age etc) is going to work in a mmorpg. I know this is not a new thing in mmorpgs since most games have a companion or pet class. But it appears that everyone in Swtor will have companions to fight along side them.

Swtor Advanced Classes And Specializations

June 6th, 2010

To keep it interesting the team over at Bioware have released some information on how they plan to make the classes in Swtor deeper with two specializations for each class, The only ones to be announced of this time are for the Sith Warrior these would include the Juggernaut and the Marauder. I will go into a bit more detail about these two advanced Sith Warrior classes later but for now I wanted to talk more about why they have allowed each class to have two skill trees and two advanced classes.

The most obvious reason of cause is that you can customize your character in Swtor to how you want to play it and all classes will have many different versions and abilities, Rather than just having the same skills as every other player that is playing your class you will be giving the chance to mix it up a bit and maybe surprise some people. Although you can only choose one of the two advanced classes for your character each advanced class has 3 sets of skills which you can play with to allow for more customization.

Two of these skill sets are totally unique to the advanced class that you have choose and the third set is known as a shared set, This third set basically allows you to improve on the skills from your core class which lets face it a lot of people will not bother doing since you have a limited number of points to spend on your class and can not get every skill that there is on offer. Knowing that you can not have every skill for your class and advanced class means that spending your points should be a process that is done after much thinking. At this time I am not sure if they plan to implement a class reset button, So you can reset all your skills and get a new set.

As I stated before the main reason for having so many skill sets is to allow players to customize their characters 100% to their play style it will also leave a lot open to trial and error since some combinations of skills for certain classes will either be great or shockingly bad.

From what has been announced the Sith Warrior has two advanced classes these include the Juggernaut and the Marauder. The Juggernaut is basically what it sounds like a tank capable of taking tons of damage while using support buffs to help benefit their group. They can even drain energy from their enemies to stay at full strength.

The Marauder is the complete opposite it would seem and are pretty much damage dealers that boast amazing DPS. The Marauder seems to have some skills that would normally be found on a rouge, these include targeting areas that do the most damage to their opponents like critical attacks.  What I do find interesting is that with all this attacking prowess they seem to have nothing in the way of defense, So I expect the Marauder to pretty much be a glass cannon but providing a friendly Sith Juggernaut is doing their job taking all the damage this should not be a issue for the Marauder.

We will keep you updated when we know more of advanced classes in Swtor, What can be said is that Bioware are going a long way to make the skill system excellent and to really allow players to customize their classes extactly to how they would like to play them.

Swtor Guide – Combat In Swtor

April 25th, 2010

Bioware recently released a new video showing off some of the impressive combat in Swtor. One thing I want and I am sure everyone Swtor fan wants is amazing combat that sets Swtor apart from other mmorpgs and from watching the video above I am sure you will agree that they have done just that. Making a decision on what class to play in Swtor is becoming more and more difficult since all of them clearly have something unique to offer. Watching new combat video also gives us some insight into these unique abilities such as the Bounty Hunters jet-pack and the Imperial Agents ability to call in air strikes on their enemies.

Watching the latest combat video of Swtor should make other mmorpg developers very worried since Bioware really are creating some new and unique in the world of mmorpg combat, The player will feel more involved in the combat and danger that their character must face. Among all the things the lightsaber fighting is looking excellent and far better than we first expected it would be. The introduction of a cover system for the Smuggler and Imperial Agent will also be something that we have never seen in a mmorpg before.

Go ahead and check out the latest combat video above I am sure it will have you desperate to get playing Swtor. One point that Bioware do make that is completely true is the fact that in other mmorpgs some enemies have teams of 4 or more people fighting just that one enemy, This does not feel so heroic but in Swtor you will find yourself outnumbered fighting for survival which will make your character feel heroic and get your adrenaline pumping.

Swtor Guide – Swtor Sarlacc Enforcer Class Guide

April 6th, 2010

Its good to see the team at Bioware getting on board with the April Fools humour they recently released a new class for Swtor called the Sarlacc Enforcer. For those of you they do not remember a Sarlacc is the Big Hole looking type monster from Star Wars Ep3 Return Of The Jedi, You know the one that Jabba trys to feed Luke Skywalker and Han Solo too but it ends up eating Boba Fett instead.

This class promises to be the best in the game and has the ability to perma kill anyone it kills in PvP, It also can use the most advanced weaponry in the game and has massive resistances to most attacks!

It has large tentacles that are also resistance to most attacks, These tentacles contain a neuro-toxin which can stun and cause paralysis. These large tentacles give the Swtor Sarlacc Enforcer a much longer range than some other classes in Swtor.

Anyone who plays the Sarlacc Enforcer class in Swtor will be started in Tatooine and from there will be able to start dominating Swtor in every shape or form. Both Jedi and The Sith have tried to train the Sarlacc Enforcer but it remains a neutral party and has no allegiances or a faction that it sides with. Generally speaking this is one enemy you do not want to find in your training area.

Known Abilities:

- Stealth
- Ambush
- Digest
- Regurgitate
- Super death ray
- Receives action points, buffs and healing from consumed gear

Rumour has it that Sarlacc Enforcer can also marry humanoids!

Check out the Swtor Sarlacc Enforcer on the holonet here

Or Sit back and watch the Sarlacc Enforcer Below

P.S Please remember this is a joke by Bioware so do not get your hopes up about being a Sarlacc Enforcer in Swtor.

Swtor Guide – Where Will Your Allegiance Lie?

March 28th, 2010

Will you be a warrior for the republic or a evil servant of the empire…..

Well it all depends on what class you are going to play in Swtor since each class has its own faction or allegiance and right now there are two allegiances and two factions in Swtor. At this time it is hard to say how much these allegiances will affect what you have to do in the game but from what has been said I can imagine they will have a huge impact on what you can do ingame. Each allegiance has two force using classes and two other classes within them so lets take a look at these allegiances and factions.

The Galactic Republic – Swtor Guide

The Galactic Republic is a allegiance for those players that will play on the light side of the force and also troopers and smugglers will be part of the republic. This might surprise you but the smuggler basically prefers the way the republic does things compared to the evil Sith Empire.

The Galactic Republic prides itself on freedom and individual rights everything they do is decided by the senate which is made up of thousands of star systems throughout the galaxy, Its all about democracy for the republic and this is how it has been for more than twenty thousand years. If you are planning to play a Trooper, Smuggler, Jedi Knight or a Jedi Consular then you will be playing for the republic which isn’t a bad thing since the planets you will be doing assignments on will be lighter and more beautiful than Sith players.

Faction – Jedi Order

The Jedi Order are the guardians of the republic and therefore their faction is aligned with the republic, Known as the peace keepers of  galaxy and are called in to handle disputes between other factions or in some cases even individuals. Being a Jedi ingame should be a amazing experience they are well know for their fighting abilities, Using force skills and lightsabers the Jedi is a worthy adversary for anyone.

The Jedi Order is led by a 12 Jedi Master council which makes decisions on what the Jedi should get involved in and where there efforts are most needed. It is likely that If you play a Jedi in Swtor you will be taking your orders from the Jedi council. So If you fancy fighting for the Lightside then the Jedi Order is for you.

The Sith Empire – Swtor Guide

The Sith Empire are as evil as they come and are determined to dominate the galaxy and the emperor of the Sith has lived for more than 1.300 years!  If you are planning on playing a Imperial Agent, Bounty Hunter, Sith Warrior or a Sith Inquisitor then you will be fighting for the Sith Empire. The planets and areas of which a empire player will be exploring are looking very dark and crude and isn’t for those who enjoy brighter and more lively areas.

The Sith Empire is a dictatorship where basically whatever the emperor wants he gets, Determined to destory the Galactic Republic and the Jedi Order the Sith Empire will hire Bounty Hunters and use Imperial Agents to attack the republic and Jedi. If the Empire ever did gain control of the galaxy free people will be doomed.

Faction – Sith Lords

The Emperor himself is a Sith Lord and therefore ties this faction will the Sith Empire, Sith Lords include classes such as the Sith Warrior and Sith Inquisitor. Both of these classes in Swtor are looking amazing right now and have the skills and weaponry to go with it. The Sith Lords was once defeated by the Jedi Order in the great hyperspace war which has left them looking for revenge.

The Sith Lords use anger as there main strength which combined with the dark side of the force makes them lethal combatants. Weilding two handed lightsabers and a massive use force lighting is what we have all been seeing from the Sith Lords. So if you are feeling a little bit evil and dont mind taking orders from an even more evil emperor, Then being a Sith Warrior or Sith Inquistor will be the path for you.

Swtor Guide – Swtor Sith Inquisitor Class Guide

March 21st, 2010

The Sith Inquisitor in Swtor is one of the best looking classes in my opinion and has the skills and attack power to match these amazing looking armours, weapons and skills. Swtor Sith Inquisitors are basically the nukers of swtor meaning they can do huge AoE force attacks with massive damage which makes them quick killers and useful when fighting in groups. The Sith Inquisitor uses lighting retained in their two bladed lightsabers to give out huge damaging melee attack but most of the Sith Inquisitor’s damage will be done with force attacks from a far.

Sith Inquisitors wear darker robes than any other class in the game which is designed to show there dark and evil personalities, Their robes also allow maximum movement allowing the Sith Inquisitor to pull off some amazing acrobatics as well as being one of the fasted moving classes in the game. With such good acrobatics and speed the Sith Inquisitor becomes a very useful class with a lightsaber although their robes do not offer much in the way of damage protection, The player of any Sith Inquisitor will have to learn when it is a good idea to stay and fight or to back off and attack from a far.

The most used skill of a Sith Inquisitor will be force lighting! Sith Inquisitors have the skills to call down huge lighting storms on their enemies which have large damage over time and are also AoE. Another skill that the Sith Inquisitors have is the ability to drain their enemies lifeforce or use it to make their attacks even more potent.

After saying all of this great stuff about the Sith Inquisitors attacking skills you wouldnt be me if I went on to tell you that a Sith Inquisitor is also one of the games healer classes and will be needed in group combat for the empire because of their healing skills. You can play a Sith Inquisitor anyway you want really depending on how you set it up I have been told that the Sith Inquisitor has 3 skill trees which will be something like Healer, Melee DPS and ranged DPS. Which means you can have 3 types of Sith Inquisitor.

When the game is released in beta we will be able to further test the Sith Inquisitors skills to see how it can be effective as a healer or dps or even crossing the skill trees to have a little of both.

Known Abilities:

* Saber Strike – Melee attack, restores force points
* Shock – Direct Damage
* Lightning Hold – CC
* Whirlwind – CC and Damage
* Overload – Knockback and damage
* Lightning Drain – CC, restores force points
* Dark Meditation – OOC self heal
* Dark Gift – regular heal
* Unnamed Force Drain – damage enemy, heals self/allies
* Unnamed revive ability – revive other players

Check out the Swtor Sith Inquisitor in action!

Swtor Guide – Swtor Imperial Agent Class Guide

February 18th, 2010

Imperial Agent Class Swtor Guide

The Imperial Agent class in Swtor is basically the opposite of the republics smuggler but instead of fighting for the republic the Imperial Agent fights for the empire and main role is to hunt down and eliminate the enemies of the empire. Using blasters and gadgets the Imperial Agent is a force to be reckoned with, Skills which include a mobile deployable barrier for cover from blaster fire and a the ability to stun their enemies from range leaving them open to attacks from the Imperial Agent.

The Imperial Agent normally wears state of the art lightweight fibre armour which grants them great protection by also ease of movement making them quicker than classes wearing heavy armour, Also built into the Imperial Agents armour is augmentations that help the Agent hack and disable security systems. It goes without saying that with all the sneaking that Imperial Agents are capable of doing they will have suprise attack skills which will inflict massive damage on there unsuspecting victim. From what I have seen of the Imperial Agent they are strictly a range class and will be quickly taken down if they allow strong melee classes like Jedi Knights in close, to prevent these from happening the Agent needs to be sneaky but incase they do get caught out using gadgets and their speed normally allows them to get to a safer distance to begin fighting whoever is attacking them.

If playing rogue like classes that are fast and can hand out massive suprise damage then the Imperial Agent is the class in Swtor for you, With the use of some very interesting gadgets the Imperial Agent should be a very fun class to play in Swtor.

  • Sleep Dart* -AI: Puts the target to “sleep”; does not aggro; does not alert nearby enemies.
  • Stun Dart* -AI: May be the same ability as “Sleep Dart”
  • Toxic Dart -AI: Does DoT to a target without it noticing for some time; does not aggro & alert nearby until noticed
  • Laze Target -AI: Multiplier to core damage
  • Explosive Probe Droid* -AI: Wont explode until you shoot the enemy.
  • Shiv -AI: Not an item, its an ability; the vibroblade stays in the body and disappears with the body
  • Portable Cover -AI: The Agent can create its own cover.
  • Stealth Belt -AI: Not an item, its an ability.
  • Orbital Bombardment -AI: This is like an airstrike known from various other games.
  • “out of combat Self Heal”
  • Snipe -AI: The Ability seen in the Holonet Combat Vids – could be same as “Laze Target” ; High powered sniper shot (assumption: can only be used when target is stunned / this works like the Ability we have seen in the Smuggler Walkthrough)
  • Dart -AI: This Ability is seen on the Holonet ; Indication that Sleep Dart and Stun Dart are infact the same Ability ; may be the same Ability as Stun/Sleep Dart.

Swtor Guide – Swtor Sith Warrior Class Guide

February 11th, 2010

Sith Warrior Class Swtor Guide

With a lightsaber in each hand the Sith Warrior is a force to be reckoned with, Focusing less on force powers and more on lightsaber melee combat the Sith Warrior is deadly up close. Always using aggressive lightsaber tactics leaves the Sith Warrior open to attack this is why they wear heavy armour and are able to use augmentations to boost their defense and fortitude (HP), These augmentations will also help to boost the swtor Sith Warriors strength making them a real handful when they get in close to their enemies.

As I mentioned above the swtor Sith Warrior focuses on lightsaber skills and is unmatched when it comes to using lightsabers in melee combat, The Sith Warrior does have some force powers to use in bursts such as shock, grip, paralyze and terrify. Swtor Sith Warriors are not restricted to using duel wield lightsabers and will be able to use many different types of lightsaber or lightsabers to do loads of damage to their foes generally the Sith Warrior is a berzerker like class that jumps in does massive damage then will most likely fall.

The Sith Warrior is a natural leader and those who group with them will benefit from group buffs provided by the Sith Warrior to increase our allies defense, attack and fortitude. So if you are wanting to play solo or as a class that is required in groups all the time then the Sith Warrior may be what you are looking for along with their amazing dps they will most likely be a effective tank. Lethal deadly and fun is what you are going to get from a swtor Sith Warrior.

Known Abilities:

  • Force Choke. AP Builder
  • Smash. 03 second mark. Stun + Dmg ability. AP Burn.
  • Force Charge. AP Builder.
  • Impale AP Burn, Dmg + Stun.
  • Channel Hatred. Out of Combat Self heal.
  • Passive Blaster Deflection.
  • Saber Throw
